Being a part of DSWS has been one of the best experiences I have had at Ohio State, that has helped me grow in so many different aspects. The most important skills that I have developed are leadership, communication skills, and confidence. DSWS has helped me develop into the leader that I am today from professional development and a leadership course. Having this skill that I was able to develop is something that I will continue to carry through my college. Possessing leadership skills will help me achieve my career goal of becoming a doctor. Confidence and communication skills continually help me through my time at the university and without gaining those with scholars my collegiate career would be completely different. Scholars has help me to gain confidence trying to navigate through just a large school. Coming from such a small high school and then coming to a huge university I was very intimidated by what was going to happen. Scholars has given me to the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and apply for new things throughout campus. One example having the confidence to go through Greek life recruitment. Another example was having the confidence to apply to be a campus wellness ambassador. Without scholars I would never have even thought about ever even applying let alone actually getting the position. Through scholars I have been able to gain communication skills by communication with peers and faculty members. Gaining all these experiences through scholars is something that I will continue to use through my career and grow upon.

Year in Review
The first couple weeks living here at Ohio State was a time where very memorable experiences were made that I will never forget. Some of these include activities such as scholars welcome week activities and also meeting all my friends on my floor. The welcome week activities was an easy way for us to meet people in the scholars community and become friends with them immediately. However, the most memorable experiences from the first weeks being a student here were the football games. I have always had a love and passion for the sport of football and the great football team that Ohio State had was one of the reasons why I was so drawn to this university. I will never forget going to the first home football game of the season at Ohio Stadium. I remember walking out of Morrill Tower with everyone being around the stadium so excited to watch the game. I feel that the football games are the times at the beginning of the year when I was able to meet and connect with my friends. Getting ready to go to the games together and then being able to sit together at the games was a way for us to bond and grow closer as a community. The whole atmosphere of games days has so much excitement. With everyone having something in common allowed us all to become friends very quickly. Another memorable experience from the football games was everyone signing Carmen at the end all together. This was a way for us all to come together as a community that was such a memorable experience for me.

Artifacts
One artifact that I have that is very significant to me is my medallion from my high school. I went to an all girls private high school which is is founded by the sister of Notre Dame and there are schools all over the world that are part of this community. Everyone that graduates from one of these Notre Dame schools gets a gold medallion necklace. This necklace is very significant to me because it is a way for me to be able to relate to people all over the world that went to a similar school as me. This medallion also signifies the person that I am. I feel that my high school has shaped me into the person that I wish to be. All the opportunities that my high school offered allowed me to grow and develop as a person and leader. Because of this I feel very proud whenever I wear my medallion knowing that it is something that I feels represent me very well. I also feel that this could signify my time at Ohio State. Through all my experiences here and especially through scholars I feel that I have grown in a very positive way. I feel that I have growth a lot a leader since I came here. Therefore, my medallion is a very important artifact for me because it reminds me of the foundation for the person who I wish to be. It is also a reminder of how much I have grown from that since being a student here at Ohio State.
About Me
I am from Littleton, MA which is a small town about 30 minutes outside of Boston, MA. I am a health sciences major with a minor in biology. Also, I am on a pre-medical track with the hope of going to medical school one day. I would like to have a concentration in orthopedics, and more specifically sport medicine. This field is of very much interest to me due to a personal experience. I have a back injury and to get it diagnosed I went to the sports medicine department at a children’s hospital. Being in this environment and seeing the work that my doctor did for me allowed me to know that it was what I wanted to do with my life. For my family I have one younger brother who is currently a freshman in high school. Me and him are very close and have always shared a passion for sports together.
