G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: Throughout my time in PSL, I want to expand my world view. I am from a suburb where many people think alike. I would like to be challenged and presented with new thoughts and ideas, and I think this scholar group can provide that. My goal for this first year is to participate in the PSL group discussions as much as possible. This idea may make me a little nervous, but growth is not possible if I don’t put myself out there. My goal by graduation is to have changed my mind and evolved my opinion on at least a few issues, showing my newfound awareness.

Original Inquiry: During my first year, I would like to learn what it truly takes to become an American lawyer. I am a pre-law track, and I would like to know if I should consider it further as a career path. During my first year my goal is to have taken the time to ask some law students/actual lawyers what it has taken for them to get to where they are now. My goal to accomplish by the time I’ve graduated is to have asked enough questions to have decided whether law school is for me or not.

Academic Enrichment: My academic goals I have set for myself during my time here are simple: maintain a 4.0, or at least as close to a 4.0 as I can. All A’s is the clear goal that I have set for myself and I know I can accomplish. By the end of my first year I would like to see whether this is a realistic goal for me or not by actually getting the grades I claim to seek. By the time I graduate I will have like to gain quality internships as a direct result of my good grades/

Leadership Development: In high school, I received many of my leadership positions by joining and actively participating clubs. During my first year here, I would like to set myself up for future leadership positions by joining clubs and groups and being an active member there. By graduation I would like at least two leadership positions because of my dedication to these organizations.

Service Engagement: During my time in high school I was a very active member on our community service teams. Throughout my first year I am going to join and stick with service groups such as Camp Kesem, Fisher Cares, and Big Brothers. By the time I graduate, I hope to be leading groups within these programs in order to better serve the people of Columbus.

About Me

Hello! My name is Matthew Corrigan and I am a member of the Politics Society and Law scholar group. I was born in Hawaii, as my parents were stationed there in the military, but I grew up in a suburb of Cincinnati Ohio called Loveland. I come from a family of four, with my younger sister Katie attending Summit High School, also in Cincinnati. Before Ohio State I attended St. Xavier High School, located on the west side of Cincinnati. While there I remained as involved as possible, playing on the soccer, volleyball, and cross country teams. I also participated in academic and recreational clubs, being a very active member of the mock trial team, Hands Across Campus Club, euchre club, and even founding my own organization called the Spikeball club. I also placed a large emphasis on service, participating in Matthew 25 Ministries, Big Buddies (an after-school homework help club for underprivileged kids, and Big Brothers. My intended major is business with a finance specialization. I’m planning to either minor or double major in accounting. After I graduate, I’m not entirely sure what I want to do, although at the moment I have been seriously considering two options: a MBA or law school. I hope to gain many things out of PSL over the next few years, the most important being challenges to my current political views from people with different background than me. I am incredibly excited to get to work here, and I cannot wait to see what the future may hold.
