About Me
My name is Claire Cornellier and I am a freshman from Novi, Michigan. I am a Microbiology major and am interested in a career in Public Health. I live with my parents and my younger brother who is a junior in high school. I am interested in bioethics and plan to add it as a minor. I am also very interested in learning French and trying to find ways to combine it with my career in the health sciences. I participated in HOSA in high school, which is a health career exploration club. I also played string bass in my school orchestra which I am excited to continue into college.

Year in Review
This past year has been one of the most exciting of my college career. I’ve had the opportunity to expand my knowledge about myself as a leader, servant and member of the OSU community. As a member of Alpha Phi Omega, I’ve had the opportunity to act as a leader in the role of pledge guide. I worked with a group of pledges for a semester and guided them through the pledging process, teaching them about our values of leadership, friendship and service. I learned key skills about managing a group and maintaining clear communication within our group. I also learned a lot about my fraternity through the pledging process by having the opportunity to teach others.
I have also been able to learn a lot about myself as a servant. Throughout the year I worked with an OSU organization called Crosswalk Outreach which works to feed the homeless community of Columbus. Every Sunday we would meet and prep meals to pass out to people throughout the city who need them. This was a great opportunity for me because I learned a lot about the people I met through this organization. I learned more about the lives of the homeless in Columbus. They came from all walks of life, some of them were even OSU graduates and we got to talk about the football season around the time of the Big 10 Championships. I learned that I love doing service where I can directly see an impact on others. I hope that this is something I will be able to continue all the rest of my time here at OSU and beyond.

Service Engagement
This year, I have had the pleasure of working with several service organizations throughout the year. However, the most impactful of those has been my work with Crosswalk Outreach. This organization works with the homeless community to provide meals, clothing and necessary health supplies that they may not be able to get otherwise. We would go out weekly to three places in Columbus to distribute these supplies. This work taught me a lot about the homeless community in the city. For one, I learned that there are different levels of need. We encountered several people who did live on the streets of the city, but I also met a few people who had a place to live, but they could only afford their housing so the food and health supplies we gave were sorely needed. Overall this project helped me get more involved with the city that I live in and I hope to be able to continue to do this work throughout the rest of my time at OSU and beyond.
