Take the π measurement challenge!

The number π is the ratio of circumference to diameter in a circle. Join us at the Great Circle Earthworks for a fun afternoon measuring circles and learning mathematics at this cultural site!

We’ll work in teams to measure the circle, and then use the meaning of π to derive our measurement of that number. How close can we get to the true value?! Come join the challenge and find out!

When: Saturday, 3/12, 1pm — 4pm
Where: Great Circle Earthworks, 455 Hebron Rd, Heath OH 43056
Who: Families and friends who enjoy outdoors, history, and mathematics!

This is a collaborative outreach event organized by OSU Newark and the Newark Earthworks center. We will announce our results on π-Day, 3/14.

  1. If a group of students (5 or more) would like to meet beforehand for lunch nearby, comment below or email, suggest a place, and I’ll set it up. Respond by 8 pm tonight.
