Chance to submit to Local Conference with cash prizes available

Please consider submitting a proposal to present your academic work at the annual AURCO Conference (Association of Regional Campuses of Ohio) to be held at the Kent State Trumbull campus on Sat. April 16th.

Here are the proposal guidelines:   http://www.aurco.org/conference/guidelines

The deadline for submission has been extended until February 15th, so you have plenty of time to decide what format you want your presentation to take—traditional paper, roundtable, Friday night 5 minute Ignite talk, or posters (students only).

The conference is a great way to share research on teaching and research, as well as a great opportunity for students to become introduced to the world of academic conferences.  An additional incentive for students to present is a $500 prize for the best student poster and a $500 prize for the best student paper presented at the conference. Also, everyone who presents at the conference is encouraged to submit a revised version of their paper to the peer-reviewed AURCO journal.

The Friday night reception includes entertainment by the Melanie Tabak duo—a jazz, pop, and soul group featuring Trumbull’s own Melanie Tabak along with John Ruggles while entertainment during the Saturday luncheon will be by the Kent State Stopper Quartet:

Violins: Tak-Kin Wong, Ming-Yuan Song
Viola: Marco Wing-Sun Man
Cello: Vincent Cheuk-Yan Leung.

For additional information, including instructions on how to submit an abstract, please go to the conference website at:   http://aurco.org/conference

We hope to see you at Kent State Trumbull on Friday and Saturday April 15-16th.

Feel free to email either of us if you have questions

Take Thee to Shakespeare

As part of OSU’s ongoing relationship with the Royal Shakespeare Company (London, England), we invite you to a special performance of “Famous Victories of Henry V”—a kind of “best of” moments from the 3 plays that trace Henry’s life from callow playboy to warrior-king.  Yes live, yes in Columbus, yes free, and we will even transport you there—IF you sign up by this Friday.  CLICK HERE for more information and to sign up for the bus. This opportunity made possible by the English Department and Honors at Newark.

Study abroad opportunities: Apply by Jan. 15 to study abroad in May and take advantage of free tuition (up to three credits for May courses if you were full-time in the spring semester). Financial aid and scholarships can help cover the program fee (this is the additional amount charged to cover travel costs). See the earlier post for a list of all May programs with Jan. 15 deadline. I’ll write recommendations for any Honors or Honors-eligible student–so you don’t have to ask another professor on short notice. Take particular note of the Corfu, Greece program, which gives priority to regional campus students.

Save money with free tuition in May and travel (Deadline January 15)

Would you like to pay no tuition? Travel and study abroad? Explore the study abroad programs for upcoming Maymester 2016. Fees for the trip expenses will see be required. Please comment below or email cope.38@osu.edu with questions.
