Laurel Collegiate Society Elections

Please consider running for one of the leadership positions in LCS. The Laurel Collegiate Society is the Honors student organization (Honors-eligible students–3.4 GPA are invited to join as well). Bryce Jones will schedule a meeting for the week of  Sept 22 for the election. Email Bryce (jones.3408) or Jen Anthony (anthony.212) to nominate yourself, or comment here.

It’s a good opportunity to get some leadership experience and get to know your peers.

There are both officer positions and committee chairmanships. LCS must choose officers, but the chairmanships aren’t as crucial. Nominate yourself for any of the below (from the LCS constitution):

  1. The President presides over OSU-Newark Laurel Collegiate Society meetings.  He/she may serve as or appoint a spokesperson for the Laurel Collegiate Society.  He/she maintains contact among the LCS, the Honors Director, and the Office of Student Life.  He/she is responsible for contacting Honors students to inform them of upcoming LCS events.
  2. The Vice-President may carry out any/all duties of the President if he/she is unable to do so, and assists the President as needed.
  3. The Secretary/Treasurer is responsible for record keeping, maintaining all organizational papers, and keeping track of all capital acquired through fundraising efforts and other activities.  He/she keeps minutes of Laurel Collegiate Society meetings and assists the President with the task of contacting Honors students and keeping them informed, and follows all university guidelines for organizational finance

Standing Committees

Standing Committees of the OSU-Newark Laurel Collegiate Society include:  Community Service Committee, Events and Activities Committee, Fireside Chats Committee, The Reading Circle Committee, and Public Relations Committee. Ad hoc committees may be formed as needed. Each committee is responsible for short- and long-range planning for its area, keeping Laurel Collegiate Society Members and Officers informed of its activities, and organizing and following through on responsibilities within its domain. Each of the standing committees is to be composed expressly of those who are of the standing of a general member within the LCS.
