Summary of ESLTECH 2011

  1. Learning technologies

One thing that I learned was all of the different apps that are available to help with the studying process. For example, we learned about Trello and Study Manager. There are so many different technologies that if a person would be able to find the technology that works the best for them. They can help you schedule your time and dedicate the allotted time to the desired subject, keep you accountable for your studying habits, break down subjects or assignments to easily manage, time management, anything you could think of.

2. Note taking and One Note

We learned many different ways to take notes. The way I found the most success was the outline method. It works the exact same way you work create a slide for powerpoint or write out ideas for a paper. Each topic would be the title slide and after that would be your subsections and the notes for each. A note taking app that I like to use this method with is Microsoft One Note. It is essentially an online binder in which you create different tabs and sections for classes.

3. Learning style is a myth

I thought this was a very interesting thought. From the surface, one would think that catering to an individuals desired learning style to improve their learning. Once we took a deeper look into it, it is not that simple. Thinking about it longer, it makes more sense for an individual to learn via many different teaching styles. It forces someone to adapt and expand their own mind. Our mind loves challenges to open up new thoughts.
