Welcome!

I am a geoscientist interested in ‘frozen methane’ below the seafloor called natural gas hydrate.  I want to know how much gas hydrate occurs on Earth, how the gas hydrate systems form and how hydrate interacts with the global carbon cycle.

My research group at Ohio State is funded by the US Department of Energy, National Energy Technology Laboratory, the National Science Foundation, and the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.  We use seismic data, well log data and sediment core to work on a number of projects, including:

⋅ formation evaluation in gas hydrate reservoirs

⋅ physical properties of near-seafloor sediments

⋅ modeling methane migration in marine sediments, and

⋅ imaging and mapping marine gas hydrate systems

Publications, funding and further details are available on my CV.

I am actively recruiting new graduate students (masters or PhD) who are interested in marine geology, gas hydrate and/or scientific ocean drilling for Fall 2024!  Students must have at least two semesters of Calculus.  If you are interested, email me!
