The James A. Bing Award

The Bing Award was established in 1947 by the Ohio Optometric Association in honor of Dr. James A. Bing. The award recognizes outstanding graduates for their work in the area of visual perception.

The Vincent J. Ellerbrock Award

The Ellerbrock Award was established in 1966 in memory of Dr. Vincent Ellerbrock, former professor of optometry and vision science. The award recognizes exceptional student achievement in the field of vision science.

Beta Sigma Kappa

Beta Sigma Kappa is an international honor society in optometry whose members have achieved academic distinction in their professional studies. The Beta Sigma Kappa Silver Medal is given each year to the BSK graduate who has attained the highest grade-point average.

The Dr. Lyle Aloysius John Gassmann Memorial Award

Dr. Lyle Gassmann, a member of the Class of 2002, died in December 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. This award honors his memory, and is given to the graduate who best exemplifies Dr. Gassmann’s humanitarian characteristics, leadership qualities, and service to others.

Graduate of the Year

This award is given to the most outstanding member of the graduating class who has demonstrated extraordinary clinical excellence, academic achievement, leadership, and professional promise.

Clinical Excellence Awards

Each specialty clinic service recognizes members of the graduating class that have demonstrated remarkable clinical skills and professionalism in patient care management. This group of awardees consistently goes above and beyond to advocate for their patients and practice with the patients’ best interests in mind at all times.
