  • Advising/communicating with investigators and research teams through our electronic IRB submission system (Buck-IRB), via email, and over the phone
  • Preparing submission documents for IRB review
  • Communicating the IRB’s determinations and requests for additional information to research teams

What current IRB protocol analysts say

Job postings don’t always provide a clear picture of a position, so we polled a few members of our operations team about what to expect. Here’s what they had to say.

You’ll be successful here if…

  • You are focused, thorough, and have a knack for meticulous, detailed work
  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills and enjoy making complex ideas easy to understand
  • You don’t mind completing administrative and repetitive tasks in a computer-based environment
  • You are self-motivated, can work efficiently on your own, and are adept at prioritizing a high volume of tasks with competing deadlines
  • You like contributing to a team: your work has a direct impact on your colleagues, and vice versa!
  • You are comfortable using common office software (Microsoft Office, Zoom, etc.) and learning new platforms

You’ll enjoy this position if…

  • You’re interested in the research portfolio of a large, public institution: you’ll get a birds-eye view of the 5,000+ diverse and cutting-edge studies involving human subjects at Ohio State
  • You are excited by the idea of learning (and applying) something new every day: thinking critically to interpret and apply gray areas of regulations/standards to a variety of research sounds like fun
  • You thrive in an environment of continuous improvement and accountability: you are comfortable seeking help and see mistakes as opportunities for growth
  • The phrase “It depends…” inspires curiosity rather than apprehension
  • You want to be part of a meaningful and necessary department that makes a difference for researchers and study participants alike
  • You love fantasy football (this one’s optional!)
