How to Join the Consortium

Please contact Nina Parshall (parshall.8@osu.edu) to request an introduction meeting. In this meeting Nina will cover the organization mission, structure, membership expectations and answer any questions.

Consortium Structure

The larger Consortium Committee is made up of many summer research programs from across the university. The committee has a chair that is responsible for membership management, monthly or bi-weekly meeting organization. There are three subcommittees (outlined below) that oversee the planning and execution of events and activities. Each subcommittee has a designated chair that oversees and organizes the group.

  • Community Engagement – Plans and coordinators all aspects of community related events, including the Consortium Kick-Off. The goal of the community engagement subcommittee is to provide opportunities for students to: ​
    • Engage actively with the campus research community ​
    • Provide unique opportunities for interactions among subset of students​
    • Enable students to develop sense of community​
    • Learn more about the surrounding area and Central Ohio ​
  • Professional Development – Plans and coordinates all aspects of PD activities including marketing and sharing relevant information with each program. The goal of the of Professional Development subcommittee is to:​
    • Equip students with knowledge and skills that enable them to be successful in graduate and professional settings.​
    • Develop, implement, and organize professional development sessions for consortium participants​ (once weekly over 8-9 weeks).
  • Research Symposium – Plans and coordinates all aspects of the symposium. Event logistics, registration, luncheon (if fund are available), marketing, etc. The goal of the of Research Symposium subcommittee is to provide a meaningful symposium experience for all attendees.

Membership Expectations

  • Attend Consortium meetings (monthly or bi-weekly depending on the time of year)
    • Meetings typically occur between December-August
    • Bi-weekly touch base meetings during summer months
  • Each member will serve as a member or chair of a least one subcommittee
    • attend planning meetings as determined by the subcommittee
  • Participate in early summer kick-off event that introduces students to Consortium events and activities
  • Promote and encourage student engagement in planned professional development events and seminars
  • Encourage attendance at community engagement/social activities as planned by the Consortium
  • Participation in the joint Research Symposium is strongly encouraged, but not required.
