Teaching Plan for Future

After residency, I plan to start as pharmacy leader for the Circleville Kroger Pharmacy. As someone who has a passion for community pharmacy practice, opportunity will allow me to further my skills in leadership within community practice and patient care. However, this position will mean that I will not be taking a position that entails any explicit teaching role. Because of this, my teaching plans will include opportunities for experiential education in the short-term. In my first year as a pharmacy leader, I hope to make contact with different colleges of pharmacy in order to take APPE students at my pharmacy location in Circleville. I believe that the pharmacy in Circleville will be a good environment for student learning, as the store is adequately staffed and has a unique patient population. Taking APPE students during my first few years as a leader will help me to develop my experiential teaching and coaching abilities while balancing my responsibilities as pharmacy manager.

Because I will be staying with Kroger, I hope to continue teaching the APhA Immunization Training Certificate coursework for new graduate interns for Kroger that haven’t yet received APhA’s immunization training. I also plan to become a preceptor for the Kroger PGY1 residency program with OSU, helping with the Project Management aspects of the program. Through both of these opportunities, I hope that I can further develop more of my more explicit teaching skills, including facilitation of content, content creation and development, and giving feedback to pharmacists and residents.

As it concerns my long-term teaching goals, I hope to continue to teach coursework with Kroger, the OSU College of Pharmacy, and with residency programming in some capacity. While I hope to continue teaching both experientially and in the classroom, I do not anticipate that the majority of any of my future positions will be focused on teaching. While I hope to continue to educate both pharmacists and residents in the future, it is not my goal to be an educator, primarily. I look forward to seeing what doors open up for me in the future to leverage my skills in leadership and community pharmacy to educate pharmacists, residents, and students.
