Our UN Millennium Goal was Global Partnership for Development. The highlights of this goal include enabling developing countries to grow economically, trade within and with each other, establish a stable economy, and access technology and healthcare. For our region of specification, we chose Central America. Within Central America, it’s a very diverse population of indigenous, Spanish, caucasian, and black descendants. Central Americans are often afflicted by extreme poverty: immigrants, women, youth, and indigenous people in particular. In addition to extreme poverty, violence is a huge presence with many of the people due to unstable and corrupt governments and drug related violence. Another issue in Central America is wealth disparities and inequalities, migration to developed countries, and decline in GDP.

While Central America and its developing countries are hit hard with many hindrances, the UN proposes many ways to solve these issues. First, attention and aid must be prioritized to countries and communities that are the least developed, rather than the more developed countries. Priority aid must also be given to countries that are landlocked, islands, or countries that have little means of transportation and infrastructure. In addition, the UN proposes that partnership with pharmaceutical companies is essential. Here, undeveloped countries could gain access to medicine, surgeries, vaccinations, and treatment that’s needed. Also, partnership with technology companies is very important. People who live in undeveloped countries need web and cellular access for education and to be linked to the rest of the world. Finally, the aid that’s given to these countries needs to be closely monitored to prevent misallocation and corruption. So far, much progress has been made in development. Cellular and web use has dramatically increased along with the number of internet users as well as broadband use. In conclusion, this project has been especially enlightening on the efforts and goals in development.
