Mentoring and Coaching

In academic medicine, mentoring and coaching serve distinct but complementary roles in professional development. Mentoring is a long-term, relationship-based process where a more experienced faculty member provides guidance, support, and career advice to help a mentee navigate academic life, build networks, and grow professionally. In contrast, coaching is typically a shorter-term, goal-oriented engagement focused on developing specific skills, enhancing performance, or addressing targeted challenges. While mentors offer wisdom and perspective drawn from their own experiences, coaches use structured techniques to facilitate self-discovery, accountability, and actionable progress.

Through educational workshops, departmental outreach, and matching, FAME is your faculty resource for identifying and creating successful mentoring and coaching relationships.
