Christopher Columbus. Everyone, no matter who they are has at least heard of him. From a young age, children are taught that Columbus was the hero that sailed from Spain and discovered the new world. He was glorified in the class room and given credit for his determination and drive for exploration. However, many elementary schools teachers gloss over some of the darker truths. Columbus was also allegedly a harsh and cruel ruler of the natives and his crew. Many horror stories have emerged of him torturing the indigenous population and using them as slaves for his new territory. The below sources show both accounts and leave the decision of hero or villain to you.
