Collaborating to Implement Cross-System Interventions in Child Welfare and Substance Use

Implementing cross-system interventions like Ohio START depends on strong collaboration among child welfare agencies and substance use treatment organizations. However, the specific ways that organizations collaborate across systems to align their services and operations can differ. In this study, we examine the effectiveness of different collaboration strategies and develop a decision support guide for organizational leaders who are responsible for initiating collaborations.

Aligning Behavioral Health and Child Welfare Systems to Address the Opiate Crisis in Rural Ohio

Regional boards, coalitions, and other groups that are responsible for coordinating community services can help local organizations overcome collaboration challenges and implement cross-system interventions. This study investigates the role of regional behavioral health boards (known as Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health, or ADAMH Boards in Ohio) in supporting collaborative partnerships between child welfare agencies and substance use treatment organizations that are implementing Ohio START.
