Second Year Reflection

I think this year has gone extremely well.  I have continued to succeed in my classes and have been increasing my GPA.  I also began research at the Eye at Ear institute with deaf infants, and have found new places to volunteer.  I have became more involved as a chemistry peer mentor/tutor with Dr. Stoltzfus, and have continued to make more relationships with the faculty at OSU.  During this semester, I have continued to find new volunteering, shadowing, and more pre-med experiences to prepare me for my future.  At the end of this year, I was also accepted to several more mentoring and research opportunities that I will begin next semester.  As my second year comes to an end, I couldn’t be more excited with all of the progress I have made and with what will come in my future

Vision Statement

My collegiate path has been difficult, but I couldn’t be more happy and proud with how far I have come.  As my dream of making it into medical school and become a doctor becomes more of a reality, I am as motivated as ever to continue my academic success.  To make that possible, I must continue to work hard, and never cease to try and improve myself.  In the coming semesters, I will continue to improve my grades, and start to become even more involved with my research.  I will continue to find new opportunities to prepare me for my future, and I know if I continue to strive toward my goals, they will eventually become my reality.

Buck That: ICCA’s

After a year off, Buck That competed in the ICCA acapella competition.  We placed first at the quarterfinal competition advancing us to semifinals, and at semifinals we placed third.  We had been practicing our set since the beginning of the school year, and it really paid off.  This year in Buck That helped show me that you must work hard for everything you want to achieve, and if you really put your all into something, it will pay off.  This year has only made me want to push and work harder for the things I’m passionate about.Image may contain: one or more people, people standing and night

Scholars Event: Study Session

img_2406The first scholars event I attended was the study session held in the Barrett lobby.  It was a very appropriate, helpful event with midterms being so close.  It was a very productive setting and event to meet other scholars.

Year in Review

Although the transition to college was big, I have adjusted well. I am doing well in my classwork while being involved in extracurricular activities. I am also involved in Biological Science Scholars. This program ended up being very helpful, and it helped me meet a lot of other people with the same interests and similar classes. Scholars, and this past semester, has greatly helped me assimilate myself into the college atmosphere. I am looking forward to my future time in Biological Science Scholars program and my time at OSU.

G.O.A.L.S.

G.O.A.L.S.

At an incredibly early age, I decided I wanted to be a doctor.  Since then, my goals haven’t changed, and I’m always getting closer to reaching my dream.  With age I began to realize this would be a more difficult task than ten-year-old me had expected, however it hasn’t deterred me in the slightest.  Through the years leading up to now, I have been knowingly, and unknowingly, preparing for the scholars’ goals.

In the spring my choir traveled to Prague, Budapest, and Vienna.  Although the trip was only two weeks and may be viewed nearer to a tourist traveling event, I became very submerged and exposed to different cultures. My friends and I had a lot of free time which we spent solely meeting new people.  I was excited to try new things, learn new things, and especially see new things.  My choir would perform at numerous beautiful monasteries and churches.  I expect to meet many different people being a doctor.  Global awareness will help me have better consciousness of everyone I meet.

In terms of original inquiry, I want to do hands on research as much as possible.  This will provide me with first person learning I need to become more properly exposed to medicine.  Research greatly interests me because I want to learn with hands on experience.

In the process of becoming a doctor I expect to learn a very large amount.  As an occupation, it requires additional schooling.  I don’t view this as a burden, but a place to expand and grow.  I’m excited to gain more knowledge, and I am looking forward to it as a place to help me accomplish my goals.

I am currently in the a capella group Buck That.  In my past choir I was a section leader and hope I can expand as a leader through Buck That.  In the future, I will have the opportunity to try to obtain a leadership position if I desire to.  This is important in all aspects of my future.  Becoming a better leader will help me in many future situations when I am in charge of anything.       During high school, I was in Tri-M.  This was a volunteer music group that, obviously, volunteered.  Regardless of what event, it was something I enjoyed.  I legitimately love the feeling of being helpful, kind and compassionate.  If I want to be happy, I know I can do this by helping others.  The G.O.A.L.S. that I am being taught will help me achieve my goals and that will help me achieve happiness.
