My London Honors Experience

London Honors was a very unique experience that I am very glad I was able to be a part of. This course was not something that I had originally planned on taking but I realized it would be a great way to start my study abroad experience because it allowed me to spend a short amount of time in a new country instead of a full semester. I really enjoyed the structure of this class in that we broke into our recitation groups each week which were smaller and allowed us to get to know the people that we would be travelling with. The time we spent in London was the highlight of my fall semester. I was able to insert myself directly into the culture of London which was an incredible learning experience. This trip also required me to be self-sufficient and independent during our free time because we were often finding our way around London using the tube in areas that were unfamiliar to us. This trip allowed me to confirm that I would like to study abroad in the future. I know that learning about other cultures is very important to me and being in London showed me that I can navigate on my own and I learned to be comfortable in new situations. I am considering a Spanish minor so I would love to be able to study abroad in Spain. One thing that I find so great about Europe in general is that everything is so close. It is easy to take a weekend trip to another country. While in London, I met a handful of people that were from various European countries just visiting London for a few days which is something that I would love to take advantage of in any future study abroad trips that I participate in. Many of the skills that I needed to use in London like being self-sufficient and responsible are skills that I will use not only throughout the rest of my college career but also in life. In future semesters when I take new classes that are more difficult than my classes in the first semester I am going to need to find ways to work through them and be self-reliant. Also, when I move off of campus in the future, I am going to need be accountable and responsible. I would definitely recommend this course to any first year students because it is a once in a lifetime experience and a great way to meet your peers.
