Artifacts

One object I own that I hang on the wall in my dorm is a bracelet that says, “hill two”. This is important to me for a couple reasons. The saying “hill two” is a cross country reference from high school. We ran a hills course with five hills which was roughly a mile out, with the five hills again on the mile back (two miles total). On the way back the backside of hill two was the steepest and longest hill. I put the statement “hill two” on my bracelet as it required patience, hard work, grit, and time running to get to the top faster and faster. I realized I could use this as an analogy for college. Achieving my goals won’t be easy, but if I put in the work they can be possible, similar to dropping a new best time getting up hill two.

G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness:

Of all the terms in the “G.O.A.L.S.” Acronym, “Global awareness” is the one that most applies to my future. While I have traveled a lot with my family I have never reached a point where I can say I was completely immersed in the culture. Because of this I plan on finding a fun and hopefully meaningful travel abroad trip to take related to engineering.

Original Inquiry:

One project I am working on is the current EcoCar. As an undecided engineer I find it to be a entertaining experience as I can change teams easily and hopefully find a passion with a field of engineering. EcoCar also has important connections to companies and people I would be interested in working with in the near future.

Academic Enrichment:

I am currently engineering undecided. This makes it so all opportunities in all classes can impact what I think of the future. Currently there have been parts of 1181 which I have enjoyed such as MatLab and experimental labs. With classes like these I believe I can piece together my future.

Leadership Development:

In high school I was a cross country captain for my junior and senior year, winning a state championship my junior year with the team. This is the main act I think of when referring to myself as a leader. While in college I haven’t gone out and searched for leadership opportunities as I am unsure what to lead with so little time at OSU. I would describe my leadership style as inclusive, with putting the team/group over my personal agenda.

Service Engagement:

With Green Engineering I have done a couple of service projects. My favorite was helping a farm make foods for special needs kids education. We helped build a farming enclosure to produce more crops. I hope to do more projects in the future, yet be able to use my engineering background for good.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen.
