Established December 31, 1948, by Hazel Zeller Nesbitt, Hugh E. Nesbitt, Helen Zeller Gardiner, Harold M. Gardiner, Max J. Zeller, Mary Alice Davis Zeller, Shirley Nesbitt Westwater and William K. Westwater in memory of Howard. Income provides mining, metallurgical and materials engineering scholarships.

Howard Patterson Zeller was born on April 7, 1884, in Findlay, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State in 1906. During his time as a student, he was a member of Delta Upsilon, Gramma Phi and Sigma Xi. He married Genevieve Harriet Jones on January 8, 1913. They were the parents of at least two daughters. He lived at various times in Buffalo, NY and Greensburg, PA. He passed away on December 10, 1948, in Greensburg at the age of 64.
