The Bernice L. Claugus Endowed Scholarship Fund in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

Established April 10, 2015, with an estate gift from Edward (Ed) W. Claugus; used to provide scholarships to undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Engineering who are between their sophomore and seniors years and who are majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering with preference given to students from Belmont County or nearby counties in Ohio.

Ed was born in Barnesville, Ohio in 1960, the youngest of five brothers, all who earned degrees from Ohio State. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1981 and then went on to work in the engineering field for two years before heading to business school at the University of Chicago.

Ed later went on to start his own hedge fund, Broken Leg.  He was extraordinary investor and aviation enthusiast who was known for his intelligence, determination and love for nature and adventure.  He truly lived his life to the fullest and was a proud Buckeye. Ed passed away in 2013. He left his legacy at Ohio State College of Engineering through gifts from his estate named in his mother’s honor.
