Jr. Fair Livestock I.D. Day – May 11, 2019

Jr. Fair Livestock I.D. Day will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Clark County Fairgrounds.  4-H and FFA members that plan on showing dairy feeders, market goats and/or market lambs at the 2019 Clark County Jr. Fair must bring those animals to Livestock I.D. Day.  Please use Gate D off Laybourne Road to enter and exit the fairgrounds for Livestock I.D. Day.  There is another event on the grounds that will be using the front gates.

  • Dairy Feeders will be weighed and tagged from 8 AM to 11 AM in the Cattle Arena.  Cost $10/dairy feeder.  Dairy feeders will be vaccinated and dewormed.  Reminder that dairy feeders must be castrated prior to Livestock I.D. Day.  If you bring a calf to tag-in not castrated, it will be disqualified and not tagged.  There will be no castration done at tag-in.
  • Market Lambs will be tagged from 9 AM to 11 AM in the Sheep Arena. Cost $3/market lamb.  Market Lamb Exhibitors that wish to register for County Born & Raised must turn in the completed and signed County Born & Raised Forms at the Livestock I.D. Day.
  • Market Goats will be tagged from 9 AM to noon in Cattle Barn 4. Cost $5/market goat.  Market Goat Exhibitors that wish to register for County Produced must turn in the completed and signed County Produced Forms at the Livestock I.D. Day

 

 

Jr. Fair Entry On-Line Open

4-H and FFA members may start making entry into the 2019 Clark County Jr. Fair using Fair Entry On-line.  Returning 4-H members will go to http://clarkohjrfair.fairentry.com to begin making entries by signing in with the 4-H Online link.  New 4-H families will need to go to http://oh.4honline.com to set up a password using their 4-H family e-mail first.  Click here to view the 2019 Clark County Jr. Fair Entry Instructional Packet.  This step-by-step guide will assist returning and new 4-H families with making your Jr. Fair entries.

Any 4-H member or family that would like assistance making entries may call the Extension Office at 937-521-3860 and ask for Patty House or Linda Newman, schedule an appointment during regular business hours M-F, 8 AM to 4:30 PM or participate in a face-to-face session scheduled on one of the following dates:

  • Monday, May 13, 5 PM to 8 PM, Extension Office
  • Wed., May 29, 5 PM to 8 PM, Extension Office
  • June 1, 9 AM to Noon, Fairgrounds
  • Tuesday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 19, 3 PM – 8 PM, at Skill-a-thon, Annex, Fairgrounds

Jr. Fair Entry Deadlines:

  • June 1:  Market Hogs, County Farrowed, FFA, Dairy Females, Dairy, Pygmy and Market Production Goats
  • July 1:  Alpacas, Llamas, Beef Breeding and Beef Feeders, Fancy and Production Poultry, Dogs and Horses
  • July 10:  All 4-H and FFA members are encouraged to make entry into their respective Showmanship Classes by this date.

Important Note:  The following Jr. Fair entries will be made by Extension/volunteers based on information collected during pre-fair tag-in and registration events:  Market Beef, Market Dairy Steer, Dairy Feeder, Market Lambs, Market Goats, Meat Chickens, Meat Ducks, Meat Turkeys, All Rabbits and All Cavies.

Dog, Horse & Shooting Sports Permission to Participate Forms Due April 1st

All 4-H dog, horse and shooting sports members must complete, sign and turn in the required permission to participate forms by April 1st.  These forms are in triplicate and require both the member and parent/legal guardian’s signature.  Forms should be returned to your club advisor.  One copy is kept by you, one copy is kept by the club advisor and one copy is to be turned into the Extension Office by April 1st.  If you have not received this paperwork to complete from your club advisor, you may access the forms at  https://clark.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth-development/application-and-forms, scroll down to find the form you need.

Required Horse Safety Program

All first year 4-H horse project members and a parent/legal guardian must participate in the Required Horse Safety Program.  The program will be held Saturday, March 30, 1 PM to 3 PM at the Clark County Extension Office.  Each family must purchase a Horse Safety book for $6.44, complete the training and sign the required paperwork.  This training must be completed before any 1st year member may participate in any aspect of the 4-H Horse program.

On-Line Producer Survey Required for County Farrowed Eligible Market Hogs

Many 4-H and FFA members are in the middle of purchasing their 2019 market hog projects.  For those of you purchasing pigs from Clark County Swine Producers, remember that those producers must complete an on-line survey for these pigs to be eligible for the County Farrowed Show at the Clark County Fair.

Producers must complete the on-line Clark County Swine Producer Survey no later than June 1, 2019 listing all exhibitors they sold pigs to and the pig’s information.  If a 4-H or FFA member breeds their own market hogs, they too must complete the on-line survey.  Clark County Swine Producers may access the on-line survey at  https://osu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6nzgl5YHOELTzZX or from the OSU Extension, Clark County web http://clark.osu.edu.  The survey can be found under 4-H Youth Development and then the Applications and Forms page under Swine.

The completed on-line Producer Surveys will be compared to the 4-H and FFA members Jr. Fair On-line entries by the 4-H & FFA Swine Committee prior to the Fair to verify County Farrowed Show eligibility.

 

4-H Rabbit Clinic & Quality Assurance

All 4-H Rabbit Project Members are encouraged to participate in the 2019 Rabbit Clinic & Quality Assurance Program, Saturday, March 30, 9 AM to 1 PM, Mercantile Building, Clark County Fairgrounds.  Quality Assurance will be held from 9 AM to 10 AM and is open to any 4-H market exhibitor that needs to complete the annual quality assurance requirement regardless of species.

The Rabbit Clinic will begin at 10 AM and focuses on rabbit selection, care, health, nutrition, breeding, showmanship and more.  Kevin Bogan, one of the 2019 Clark County Jr. Fair Rabbit Show Judges will be speaking and will also have rabbit cages available for purchase.    4-H members may also purchase Pet, Rabbit and Breeding Project Books as well as the Rabbit Resource Handbook.  Door prizes provided by the Clark County 4-H Rabbit & Poultry Committee.

 

4-H Enrollment Deadline April 1st

Don’t delay any longer.  Complete your 4-H re-enrollment by April 1st on-line at http://oh.4honline.com.

On-line enrollment for returning 4-H families (members, cloverbuds, volunteers/club advisors) is open until midnight April 1st.  New 4-H families with members or cloverbuds will need to complete a new enrollment form https://clark.osu.edu/sites/clark/files/imce/Program_Pages/4H/Application_Forms/ClubForms/2018%204-H%20Member%20New%20Enrollment%20Form.pdf

Join Us for the Heart Walk 4Health

Head, Heart, Hands and HEALTH!  Join 4-H, OSU Extension, Springfield Regional Hospital and the American Heart Association, Saturday, Feb. 23, 9 AM to Noon indoors at the Clark County Fairgrounds for Heart Walk 4Health.  Pick up your 4Health Passport and map in the Annex when you arrive.  Start walking around the Annex, Arts & Crafts and Mercantile Buildings to rack up steps and miles towards the chance for great prizes.  Every 3 laps equals 1 mile.  Everyone that walks at least 1 mile and visits all the hands-on activities will receive a stress ball.  The more you walk the more tickets you earn for chances to earn more great prizes including a Fitness tracker.    4-H members and clubs that participate will earn Star Points too.  Activities will include a 4-H Fitness Challenge, Can You Outrun Gravity, Smoothie Bike, Physbot Challenge with a computer printout of your hearts reaction to exercise, Lung Capacity Challenge, Healthy Snacking, Cooking with Herbs, Planting for Health and so much more.  Wear a 4-H t-shirt and earn an extra ticket for prizes.  Bring a friend and you both earn an extra ticket for prizes.  This a free, fun, family oriented event to help spread the word about the importance of Heart Health not just in February, but year round.

Clark County 4-H Blog

Welcome to the new Clark County 4-H Blog!  This blog will serve as the main communication tool to keep Clark County 4-H Families, Volunteers, Members and others up-to-date on what’s happening.  Weekly posts will be made to the blog listing upcoming events, meetings, clinics, shows, camps, etc.  In addition, we will include information about applications that are due and links to those applications on the Clark County 4-H Web.  The Clark County 4-H Blog is replacing the 4-H Clover Graham you have received in the mail.  We will mail the 4-H Calendar and Fundraiser Packet in February.   Every 4-H family and volunteer has been subscribed to this blog, since this will be your main way of obtaining 4-H information now.  We look forward to your participation in the 2019 Clark County 4-H Program.  Others can subscribe to the Clark County 4-H Blog at https://u.osu.edu/clark4h by visiting the site and clicking on the subscribe button in the lower right hand corner.
