My National Honor Society stole is one of my most prized possessions to date. I was awarded it after successfully serving as my High School’s NHS Chapter Vice President for my senior year. It is significant to me because it marks a pinnacle period of my life, one where I saw the fruits of my labor come to fruition after so many years of hard work. My freshman year of High School, I was amazed by the scholarship and integrity of the organization, one that praised academic triumph and the service of your community. I made a commitment to be a part of the organization my senior year;however, through years of hard work and over 700 hours of community service under my belt, I was chosen to be the chapter’s Vice President, something I still look upon with pride. I keep my stole with me to remind me to always set my bars high, and to always strive to be the best at everything I do, not only for my benefit, but for the benefit of others as well.

Since the beginning of my Autumn semester here at Ohio State, I have been heavily involved with Engineers Without Borders – OSU, serving as the interim Fundraising Chair, as well as being a Projects Team Committee Leader. After a lengthy and heavily competitive application process, I was chosen to not only accompany the organization’s Travel Team as we travel to The Gambia on December 17th, 2016, but to also act as one of two Health and Safety Plan Leads, where I will be responsible for the team’s physical, mental, and emotional health throughout our expedition. Being the only first-year engineer on the team is a great honor for me, and I cannot wait to go abroad and use engineering principles to better the lives of others. For the trip, all of the members had to receive numerous vaccinations to keep us healthy and safe; above is my Yellow Book, a certificate given to an individual after receiving the yellow fever vaccine. The Yellow Book is as important to us as our passports, as we cannot be allowed back into the U.S. unless we have our Yellow Books with us, to keep from possibly spreading yellow fever.

About Me

IMG_6322

Hello! My name is Hayden Clark and I’m a pre-Mechanical Engineering major at The Ohio State University. I am a Humanitarian Engineering Scholar, and am even pursuing a minor in the field as well! I am very big on setting goals for myself, as I aspire to be the president of OSU’s Engineers Without Borders chapter (EWB-OSU) one day, and am even traveling to The Gambia, Africa, on December 17th, 2016, with a team from EWB-OSU to work on installing solar-powered water tank that will gravity feed irrigation systems within the Njau Community, a village containing roughly 2,000 individuals that is located 172 km away from The Gambia’s capitol, Banjul. By my senior year at Beavercreek High School, I was the National Honor Society’s Vice President, a Captain for the Varsity Tennis Team, the Student Advisor for my school’s anti-drug and alcohol abuse club (comprised of over 170 students), and a member of Peer Listening, a class that focuses on providing peer counseling to students seeking assistance with academic, personal, and inter-personal problems at the school. In my free time, I serve as the Co-founder of the non-profit organization Free Sitters for Student Moms, an organization that provides single parents with dependents babysitting services as they try to achieve higher education to better their socio-economic standpoint. Free Sitters for Student Moms operates out of the Dayton, Ohio area, and works closely with the Greene County’s Family Violence Prevention Center, where I also serve on the Youth Advisory Board. I enjoy weightlifting, boxing, riding my motorcycle, staying fluent in American Sign Language, and of course, waffles. I am always on the lookout for new opportunities to serve my fellow human beings, and strive endlessly to help my fellow man. If I can be of service, or you want to contact me, please email me at clark.2892@buckeyemail.osu.edu.
