My First Semester

My first semester was nothing like how I thought. It definitely took some getting use to, being on campus by myself. There are a lot of things that I would like to change for next semester. I want to focus more on my classes and a little less on my social life. Although I know that it is important to have a good balance between the two I personally know that I get wrapped up in my social life and stress myself out. I am a people pleaser and I feel like someone isn’t pleased with me then I will worry about it indefinitely. So it is very important to me that I focus on myself more and the reason that I am here.

Top 5 Strengths Reflection

I thought the strengths quiz was a good lesson overall, although I believe it has some flaws. I loved what the quiz represented, in that one should focus on their strengths verse focusing on negative attributes of themselves. This is demonstrated by the quiz only giving you your top five strengths, verses listing all the strengths in order. I believe that if that was done everyones eyes would have immediately went to the bottom of the list. The idea of changing the way we look at strengths is a great lesson, it definitely helped me over just a few weeks. What I don’t completely agree with is the strengths themselves. Its hard to describe a person even with thirty plus strengths. So I feel like the test didn’t accurately represent everyone and all their strengths. Also as life goes on people change and therefore so does their strengths. In conclusion I really appreciated the lesson and took away a lot from it.

My First Week At OSU

My first week at OSU was nothing like I expected. I’ve seen move in day on movies and how chaotic they appeared to be. When arrived to my residents hall I was surprised by the welcome i received from the owl move in team. They made my move great and easy, that was my first surprise. Once in my room I met my roommates for the first time. I had always heard stories of horrible roommates and how hard it was to get along with strangers. But to my surprise my roommates and I get along great ! We don’t come from the same backgrounds or places but that is what makes living with them so fun. I get a different perspective on life and become a more well rounded person by living with them.

The first day of classes was also nothing like what I expected. I was on time and wasn’t in huge lecture halls with hundreds of students. My class sizes are around the size I had in high school and that made me feel more comfortable. All my professors where great and I didn’t feel overwhelmed. I guess that is all thanks to my AP and IB courses I took in high school. Overall I had an great first week at OSU, and look forward to many many more.
