Project Statement
This project was a fun introduction to digital design and color theory. We collected abstractions from both natural and man-made objects and used these shapes to develop new patterns. I created several grids and tested how multiple forms taken from my research worked together. I ended up working with a grid that had a gap in it so that I could introduce a flow of different patterns moving out from the center. I focused on creating intricate patterns within larger shapes so that I could use the repeat tool around the grid in order to add to the depth and detail of the overall design. When applying color, I was careful to choose schemes that complimented the shapes I wanted to bring out. I thoroughly tested each color scheme, so it completely transforms the way you view my mandala.

Reflection
Overall, I think my mandala turned out really well. The digital format allowed me to create several iterations without it being too time consuming. Because of this, I think that this project was one of mine that I tested out the most ideas and I think that truly contributed to the successful outcome of the design. Although I had some experience in adobe Illustrator, this project encouraged me to clean up my digital craft. I tend to think of crafting as something done by hand but the mandala proved that I needed my shapes to be clean and properly formatted in order for line weight, color fills, and orientation to all be the same. I believe my mandala is visually pleasing but has an unusual element that draws you in. Through this process, I realized how much color and it’s deliberate application can really change how you see a pattern heavy design.
