Christian Supiot joined OSU’s Department of Spanish and Portugues in 2014.
He is pursuing a Ph.D in Latin American Studies, with an emphasis in colonial and transatlantic studies. He is interested in the atlantic relationships between Spain and Latin America and the idea of Sea Travel during the Early Modern Period.
His academic background is focused on Naval History and Underwater Archaeology. He has on-field experience in archaeology (in both Underwater and traditional archaeology) and archivist (in both Historical and Administrative Archives).
As part of his developing process he has participate as student in the “Travesía Homenaje a Miguel de Cervantes” in the Ship Amorina (recalled Cervantes Saavedra after voyage) organized by University Camilo Jose Cela (Spain, Septiembre-Octubre 2005) and he enrolled again by personal invitation in the sailing of September, 2008.
As a firm believer in the duties of humanities for the public, he has been an active member of the Literature Group COLMO and the Poetry’s Festival: Versátil.es. He has also developed a public digital divulgation initiative as co-founder and current co-director of the Historical and Archaeological Website: Aquí Fue Troya. And he was assistant editor in the e-Journal of the MFA in Spanish Creative Writing of the University of Iowa: Iowa Literaria.
