About Me

I’m an Akronite, born and raised. I started birding when I was nine, and always managed to find excuses to run off to nature, whether it be running, survey trips, research projects or even just tranquil family hikes. I went to a K-8 Waldorf school, and am thankful to have been steeped in an environment that developed an appreciation of the arts, natural world and self-education. I’m also a student of the arts, and was a part of the Akron School of the Arts program in high school, participating in visual and choral art courses.

As an Ecology major, habitat conservation and the environmentalism movement are very important to me.  In 2016, I worked for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park as a Youth Conservation Crew employee to remove invasive flora, reinstitute native flora, and work with large volunteer groups on conservation projects. In 2017 and 2018I was a field and lab technician for the University of Akron (UA) biology department on a joint study with OSU researching the populations of Bombus pollinators and prairie flowers in the state of Ohio, and another UA project studying the rates of self-pollination among Mimulus flower populations. I came into my lab work with no practical knowledge of the tools necessary to the success of the research, and was able to learn the application of a diversity of lab equipment, along with 3D design tools and printers to create a mechanical solutions to the problems presented in the anther maceration.

I am working towards minors in Spanish and Philosophy so that I might work on conservation projects in the Neotropics, and have the education to argue intelligently for the importance of conservation and sustainability in a future where these movements are increasingly vital to the well being of organisms across the globe.
