2018 Goals

I am very excited to start 2018. Below is listed how I will apply the “G.O.A.L.S.” to my life.

Global Awareness: This will be cultivated with my internship abroad this summer in Madrid, Spain. I choose this program for its length because 8-weeks is long enough for me to really embrace the culture. I definitely need to brush up on my Spanish but I am very excited to put it into practice. I am also excited to see all the architecture and artwork.

Original Inquiry: I have decided that I do not want to pursue research because it is not conducive to my career goals. I want to focus on reading nonfiction this year and learn information from that.

Academic Enrichment: I will have yet to take an GE until my fifth year but my business minor is definitely coherent with my goals of moving up the management track. I am really enjoying mechanical engineering and I am excited to start taking some of my major classes.

Leadership Development: I am currently the Assistant Vice President of Finance for the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. I am excited to learn where exactly all of our dues are going. I am also on the corporate relations and sponsorship committee for the integrated business and engineering program. I would like to become an officer for the Society of Women Engineers.

Service Engagement: I just went on a Buck-i-SERV trip to Birmingham, Alabama this past December and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. I also went on the Appalachian Service Project this past summer. I hope to go on another Buck-i-SERV trip and maybe be a group leader. I also hope to reach my fundraising goals for Buckeyethon.

Cheers to the start of a new year!

I went on a Buck-i-SERV trip over this past winter break to Birmingham, Alabama. We volunteered for the Greater Birmingham Habitat for Humanity. There were 47 people on the trip. We worked on two houses. The first house was near completion and we worked on the finishing touches (tiling, painting, cleaning). We framed the second house. This was a week long service trip and we worked on the job site from 8 am to 3 pm. It was very rewarding work because you could visually see all the progress we were making. We stayed in a church basement that was separated into three parts by tarps. It was not the nicest living conditions but we entertained ourselves by playing werewolf. It was surprisingly a lot of fun. I hope to go on another Buck-i-SERV trip before I graduate!

Sophomore Year Update: End of 2017

Just finished my first semester of sophomore year. I finished with my best GPA ever! I think I just got a lot better at managing my time. My key to success was waking up early. I have decided that I am going to do a Global Internship in Madrid, Spain this summer through the Fisher College of Business. I am super excited! It is an 8-week program where I will intern with a company tbd. I just officially got accepted into the Mechanical Engineering Major. I have narrowed down the clubs I am involved in to Alpha Gamma Delta, Society of Women Engineers, and the Integrated Business and Engineering Program. I just got Assistant Director of Finance for AGD and get to attend the AGD conference in February as the finance rep. I also got onto the corporate sponsorship and fundraising committee for IBE. As I finish up 2017, some goals I have for 2018 is to secure an internship for the summer of 2018, attend a SWE conference, and run the Columbus half marathon. I think I am in the best shape of my life right now and I want to continue the progression. I am no longer homesick and have made friends on campus! I am getting a lot better at having a work life balance. This past December I attended a Buck-i-SERV trip in Birmingham, Alabama. I was super nervous going into it because I knew no one but I ended up making new friends and I am extremely proud of myself. Sometime before I graduate I would like to go on another one. I may try to be a trip leader. Next semester I am also doing Buckeyethon which is a 24-hour dance marathon to raise money for children’s cancer research. I am leaving tomorrow to go back to campus for recruitment training. Overall, I was very pleased with this semester and am excited to see what next semester has in store for me!

This is a picture of the winning team for the Best Business Plan for the Integrated Business and Engineering Program Design Project. We were given a semester long task of creating a tool kit. My team decided to focus on gardening for middle-class, suburban gardeners. We determined the essential tools by interviewing our end users and decided to include a trowel, spade, weeder, cultivator, and knee pads. We decided that we would be a subdivision in Stanley Black and Decker (we had flexibility in determining the state of our business ex. startup or existing company). Unfortunately, I do not have a picture of the final tool kit but basically it was foldable and expanded into a trifold-like design where the tools hung.

Sophomore Year

Hi it’s me again and I am ready for my second year as an Honors Mechanical Engineering undergraduate. I am still part of the Integrated Business and Engineering Honors Program (IBE) where I am receiving a business minor. Some of my academic achievements from last year (freshman year) included making the dean’s list both semesters and winning best business plan in my IBE class competition. I am the Philanthropy Event Coordinator for the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. On campus, I am an active member in the Society of Women Engineers and Big Data Analytics Association. In my free time I enjoy working out and reading.

This past summer I taught swim lessons and lifeguarded at my community pool. My family and I also took a two-week European Vacation where we traveled to Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and Interlaken. Additionally, I went on the week long Appalachian Service Project where I helped repair bathroom sub-flooring and plumbing. It was definitely a learning experience but I was happy I could make time to go on the trip for the fourth time.

I am looking forward to next semester and hope to get even more involved!
