Dr. Enam Chowdhury is a core faculty member at the department of Materials Science and Engineering, and as the Undergraduate Recruitment committee Co-chair for the MSE program, and the faculty advisor for the Materials Advantage Club (also known as the MSE Club) at the department, he participates in various outreach activities with local communities, high schools and beyond. He regularly goes to local high schools to sp
eak with interested students about the Materials Science and Engineering undergraduate program at OSU, performs demos to get them excited about Materials Science, and also builds connections with high school STEM faculty, invites them to MSE Open House (in which he participates every semester, along with his MSE club students. He also participates in local STEM community events like West Fest, and Super STEM Saturdays to popularize Materials Science and Engineering in the community.
Dr. Chowdhury was Invited to lead a panel at the HBCU-MI conference in Atlanta GA April 2024, on high power laser technology and advanced manufacturing, showing how HBCUs could gain by partnering with an institution like OSU to advance in this field, which is in desperate need for workforce development, because of needs in industry, the US Department of Energy and the Department of Defense. There he interacted with the students and faculty of over ten HBCU engineering program undergraduate students, Deans and other faculty, to foster collaboration and recruit future students, to help enhance representation of underrepresented minorities in OSU MSE program.
