Module 7: Keys to Motivation for Online Learning

Hello blog readers, I am happy that I have learned as much as I could from my ESEPY 1159 course. I learned to write different things and evaluate myself more along the way and slowly found myself to be more productive and effective in learning. Thank you to all the modules that do help with time management, how to reduce procrastination, note-taking, campus resources, and many more. This week, I learned more into a topic about motivation. First off, I was given many advise on what to do if I am trying to concentrate, such as finding a quiet place, utilizing my environment to motivate myself, finding a suitable soundtrack, and keeping yourself from distraction. I am taught to use some of the tools that can help eliminate online distractions. How cool is that? I mean, this is the first course that really helps by providing free apps to use, not just throwing a theory at you and ask you to be better. Next thing I found interesting is the reverse psychology of the motivation flow. I used to think I have to start off with motivation to get things done, but in fact it is the other way around. Personally, I like using TomatoTimer now because study is about focus, which is to lessen distraction. I have tried some motivating soundtrack and switching to some reminder apps, but they have some extent of distraction as well, unlike a simplistic timer app like TomatoTimer. Lastly, I learned that learning how to rest and take care of my mental health are two important aspects of success. This module has provided lots of valuable informations about how to rest, managing stress, relaxation, and the significance of sleep. I am reminded to be better not only on my work and my life but taking care of myself so my future success would not be affected by current health. The link below is the slide that I learned all these valuable informations from.

The reason I collected it because I always forget where to find Microsoft OneNote when I needed it. As an OSU student, I could not find resources I need especially Office 365 until I learned this module. So, I do not plan to forget it.

  1. Communication

Trello

Rescue Time is pretty awesome when comes to giving you ideas on what you have spent your time on. I use it twice a week to record my activity to make sure I am using my time wisely.

  1. Studying

Wolfram Alpha

Category: how to take notes and note-taking strategies

I personally find this worth looking back because I always am learning how to improve my learning skill. To me, no matter you are a student, an employee or a leader, note-taking skills reflect how to catch the main points or details of a meeting or a conversation.

  1. Searching and researching

Module 6: Searching and Researching: The Foundations of Academic Writing

Hello friends, this week is a revision lesson that reminds us to sharpen our research skills with proper way of thinking. All college students do searches and researches to find their passion, knowledge, or maybe just to complete assignment (haha). Frankly speaking, I cannot differentiate search and research before studying this module. Now I know that even researching about a topic, there are a few requirements that need to be followed, or questions to be answered before determining a source’s reliability, quality and utility (slide 14,15,16). Other than that, we learned about Wiki resources and other search engine basics (slide 18,19). From Wiki resources, we can use all that resource to free topic-learning, write quotations, see free news source and basically everything a student needs to know. I mean, who are you kidding, it is so helpful to a student like me that always needs guidance. These are useful things that I did not even know, and this module is super helpful on that. Last but not least, Boolean logic is something new and now I should start applying it in my study research planning (Slide 20,21). Google searches and Scholarly searches are useful and students all over the world should utilize them to succeed. I am grateful that this course has taught me so much.

Module 5: Web-Enhanced Listening and Viewing Strategies

Hello friends and viewers, today I am writing about the usefulness of Module 5. Module 5 lesson taught me about note-taking, which is a daily activity to a student. Despite student like me has taken notes for my whole life, module 5 still managed to teach me skills that I did not know about. Firstly, I discovered that my note-taking style is Cornell Method, which is a timeline method. There are also outline method, mind map method that I use sometimes, and others like Flow method, write-on-the-slides method (Slide 15, link provided below). I am happy that module 5 has put together useful websites for student to refer (slide 22). Personally, I feel like this class is fascinating because it really helps a lot when it comes to module 3, 4 and 5. I learned about useful college tips and I am able to fully utilize Wolfram Alpha for my finance major classes. In Slide 9, I learned that Rocketbook can do note-taking on a digital version of normal paper notebook. I always love to write on notepaper-like pages because it will help me remember better compared to writing. Noteshelf 2 is even better in my opinion, because it has everything a student needs such as proper organizations of notes and the paper-like pages that I like. Overall, I learned about more tools that can be utilized as a student.

Module 4: Online Learning Strategies and Skills

Hello everyone, I hope everybody is enjoying his or her summer. Today, I would like to share with you about what I learned in Module 4. First and foremost, I am good at memorization. However, I always loss it when I am under pressure. In simple words, I cannot study before exam or for exam. I can only remember details of an event if I truly enjoy it. This can be explained now with the help of this module slide 13 (slide URL listed below) because it says that encoding the information into the long term memory is the key to remember it. Hence, I always forget what I learned for exam afterwards and realized it is a waste of time studying for it. Now, I know that I have to make notes for exam and then study it again to strengthen my memory, suggested by slide 15. It suggested me that I have to study in a standard interval for the topics. For example, I have to study the same topic today, a week later, a month later and so on. Lastly, I was taught by slide 16 that I need to learn to retrieve my memory no matter how hard it can be. It taught me that if I can learn to retrieve memory more often, I can dig my memory deeper and apply my knowledge when I need to.

Module 3: Time Management

Personally I find this week moduel helpful and informative. I am very bad at time management. I always late to events and classes. I always procrastinate and cannot finish my assignment on the due date. Right now I realised this module has the perfect solution for me and I amg going to apply them to my time management. Firstly, I would list out my prioritise and put them into sequence. Secondly, i would break the big task down into smaller tasks. Thirdly, I would put a deadline for every each of them to make sure I keep track of my tasks.

I am happy that I got my insight from slide 15 because this is literally my biggest weakness due to the fact that I always feel stress about assingments. Now, I learned to keep ttrack and grant myself a chance to feel satisfied when I am done with my assignments and school works. Next thing i would like to do is to rearrange my time schedule for meetings,  future events, and study habits. Before changing stuff, I will break those down and split them into a few days to make sure it is plan accordingly and not squeezing everything into a day.

Module 2: Communicating and Collaborating

Hey everyone, King here. I am happy that I created this blog, not only because it is for my assignment completion, but to own a platform to be creative and share my thoughts about sutff I learned. This week module is very interesting, providing a basic for all learners, no matter you are experienced techonology user or not. As a student that born in digital era, I am considered pretty bad at using technology. Sometimes I still move my pointer down and let it slide in order to let the highlight to cover every words when I am trying to select the whole paragraph (jokes on me, still does not know how to copy the whole paragraph with keyboard shortcuts). Therefore, I have learned in slide 13 (link included below) that there are many ways to transfer and save files. Sometimes I just use email to transfer stuff to another recipient which is actually inefficient. Now, I learned that DropBox or WeTransfer can handle this for me and I am happy now. On the other hand, slide 14 taught me some tips on how to handle online group discussion for project completion too. That is fantastic because students must have encountered problem like this and need a way to solve it. I am looking forward to more tips and guidance in this course.
