Artifacts

One of my most memorable experiences from my first semester at Ohio State was when I received my bid for my professional business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi. It was so rewarding for me to come to the realization that all the members I had met through recruitment really enjoyed getting to know me and wanted me to be a part of their chapter. I remember when they sat me down to give me my bid, they told me how much they loved my personality and wanted to get to know all about me, and I was just so in awe of how caring and amazing these upperclassmen leaders of Fisher could be. Some artifacts that represent my experience are my bid and my pin. My bid was the official invitation I was given from active members of the chapter inviting me to become a part of DSP. It is significant to me because it shows me that even though they were selective, they wanted me to become a part of their chapter. Once I was initiated into DSP, I received the official pin from the chapter. It is significant to me because it shows that I am part of something so special and greater than myself.

About Me

My name is Amanda Chmiel, and I am a first year student in the Business Scholars Program at The Ohio State University. I am majoring in business with a specialization in finance, and I am a part of a professional business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi, on campus. Through my membership in DSP, I have had the chance to develop my professional, leadership, networking, and public speaking skills in order to better myself for the working world. I have also been involved as a mentor to high school students through Brighter Futures, an organization where I volunteer at a high school located in an impoverished area each week. My goal is to help build a relationship with and mentor a high school senior on the college search process and all that it entails. My short time at Ohio State thus far has already proven to be so impactful to me through everything I’ve done, both in and out of the classroom, and I look forward to what more I will gain from my experiences.
