Step 3- Transportation of Materials

As earlier mentioned, Chipotle buys their ingredients from local farms instead of factories. All of the food that Chipotle purchases is from farms that are within 350 miles of where the food will be served. This ensures fresher ingredients, while also limiting transportation costs and pollution. They do not have to transport anything by air or sea; essentially everything is delivered by trucks in a matter of days. Since they do not have to pay as much for transportation, they are able to pay more for high quality ingredients. Using these local farms to transport their food to their restaurants is not only beneficial to Chipotle, but also to the local farms.
