G.O.A.L.S.

G.O.A.L

The Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S includes Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement.

Global Awareness: I am currently attending Global Engagement Night regularly, which is an event that allows me to participate in cross-cultural discussions about different regions of the world and share my thoughts on a variety of topics. Among all the topics that I have attended, my favorite one is “Breaking Stereotypes”. We discussed what stereotypes are, what are the advantages and disadvantages of stereotypes, and how to break them. It is a great opportunity for me to get a better sense of global awareness because there are students from all over the world. Due to the difference in past experience and cultures, we exchange ideas, respect differences, and share the similarities.

Original Inquiry: I am taking English 1110 and Economics 2001. For English, it is a composition course so my ultimate goal is to compose a well-written, original research paper related to my course theme. I have learned how to find a good primary and secondary source, what the good questions are, and how to utilize the school’s resources. For Microeconomic class, I need to find a topic about the economy and write a research paper as well. These are great practices for me that prepared me for future writing.

Academic Enrichment: My current major is Economics but I am planning to switch it to Finance because both of my parents work in banks and I have some experience in it. Also, I feel like Finance is more practical and related to the real world while economics is definitely important, but it focuses more on academic knowledge. Also, since Finance is under the Fisher Collge of Business, there are better networks and both internship and job opportunities. I will also minor in something else because I want to get a wider range of knowledge.

Leadership Development: I am a member of the Fisher International Friendship Club and the Asian Business Student Association. For the former, I joined it mainly to make more domestic friends. However, for the latter, I plan to focus and commit to it. I will work hard to become an e-board member. While working on it, I will practice my leadership skills.

Service Engagement: I participated in the Clean-Up Columbus with my club members. We went to pick up trash on a neighborhood street near campus while other student organizations were assigned to different streets. I found out the six trash bags that school gave us actually caused more pollution than the trash we picked up. If they can give us the number of trash bags based on how dirty the streets are, it can reduce unnecessary waste.
