Self Introduction
Note: Check out my personal website at XDChen.com
My (current) full name is Xiang Chen (陳翔). I am a very famous person — search my name in either English or Chinese, you’ll find millions of results (that have absolutely nothing to do with me, haha). Following the example of David O. Selznick, I am considering adding the middle-initial “D” to rename myself “Xiang D. Chen”, or simply “XD Chen”.
I joined Ohio State in September 2010, and am currently working toward my PhD in Prof. Peter Anderson‘s group. My research focuses on understanding the deformation mechanisms and thermo-mechanical behaviors of NiTi-based shape memory alloys, through micromechanical and finite element modeling. I use MATLAB and ABAQUS on a daily basis. MATLAB is my favorite programming tool because of its versatility and user-friendliness. On another webspace of mine, you can find worksheets for a MATLAB-based modeling class Prof. Anderson and I developed together.
In leisure time, I enjoy long walk, reading, time with my family, listening to classical music and meditation. According to Myers-Briggs, my personality type is INTP. For me, there is no happier time than an “Aha!” moment.
Although besides Chinese and English I don’t speak any other language, I can recite the whole lyrics of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in the original German. This is the music that fully expresses my religious belief (if I have any), and this is the music that never fails to bring me to tears.
I love networking with people from all walks of life, hearing their stories and learning different perspectives. If you share this interest, let’s connect on LinkedIn.
About This Site
Hello. I just started using this site provided by OSU. Welcome to my blog!
Before we started, let me tell you a little anecdote I just found. Contrary to what I expected, u.osu.edu is actually completely independent* from osu.edu — a simple traceroute found that it is hosted by a company named Edublogs on an IP owned by ServerBeach in San Antonio, Texas.
Have a nice day!
