The EPA Environmental Research and Business Support Program has an immediate opening for a full-time Molecular Biology/Virology Laboratory Technician position with the EPA facility in Gulf Breeze, Florida.

As a team member, you will receive hands-on laboratory experience in support of water quality assessment and aquatic toxicology research, including bacterial and viral-fecal indicators work and sample preparation for qPCR and development of in vitro cell-based assays. You will also assist in laboratory experiments by collecting data and preparing samples. Research will also involve isolation and characterization of environmental microorganisms from an urban watershed, from coastal waters, in order to determine the cause of the impairment.  You will be involved in field work, water filtration and concentration of microorganisms, nutrient filtration and molecular applications to detect and identify viral and bacterial isolates.

Aquatic Toxicology Research Support $20.95/hr

The EPA Environmental Research and Business Support Program has an immediate opening for a full-time Aquatic Toxicology Research Support position with the EPA facility in Duluth, MN.

As a team member, you will assist in one of several aquatic toxicology projects evaluating aspects of chemical toxicity in aquatic organisms. The principal focus of these studies is the need to assess the effect of chemicals on thyroid hormone disruption in aquatic organisms as predicted by in vitro chemical screening results.  You will assist in laboratory activities which may include one or more of the following analysis of test chemical concentrations in water, chemical analysis of hormones in blood and tissue of exposed amphibians, and in vitro chemical activity screening assays. In addition, you may be involved in development of new techniques/procedures, writing operating procedures, and performing experiments with established scientists.

As a team member, you will be part of a research team and will be trained to perform specific laboratory tasks needed to support the work.

Scientific Data Communications Support $26.34/hr

The EPA Environmental Research and Business Support Program has an immediate opening for a part-time (20 hours per week) Scientific Data Communications Support position with the EPA facility in Research Triangle Park, NC.

As a team member, you will provide assistance in summarizing the needs of stakeholder group for managing, interpreting, and visualizing data from low-cost sensors.  This will involve scheduling discussions with key stakeholder groups from EPA regions, Tribal, state, and local agencies, taking meeting notes, and summarizing key points into an EPA report and presentation materials. You will be involved with communicating the key findings to a wider audience including stakeholders and data management solution providers.  Assistance may also be requested to summarize the ability of data management solutions to address the key needs identified in the report.

Additionally you will provide data summarization/reporting support for the field evaluation of low-cost air quality sensors.  This may include a combination of data aggregation, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and report writing.

This program provides opportunities for exceptional undergraduate and graduate students and recent bachelor’s, master’s, and postdoctoral graduates to work in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Research and Development (ORD) research and administrative projects at multiple EPA laboratories and research centers.
