Dr. Diana DiBerardino discusses “A Career in Patent Law”

Each semester, the Center for Emergent Materials hosts the Alumni Career Series, in which Ohio State alumni from diverse fields return to campus to share their career-related experiences and provide current students with tips and advice on landing that perfect job.

Our next event takes place next Thursday, November 8, and features Diana DiBerardino, PhD, JD, a Patent Attorney at DiBerardino McGovern IP Group in Pittsburgh. Ms. DiBerardino completed a Bachelor’s degree from OSU in Physics and Mathematics in 1992 before moving to the University of Notre Dame and earning a PhD in Physics in 1998. After deciding to switch fields, Ms. DiBerardino completed her legal studies at The George Washington University Law School in 2004. She is now registered patent attorney counseling both U.S. and foreign clients on the protection of their intellectual property rights in a variety of technical fields, including physics, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.

Next Thursday’s seminar will take from 11:30am-12:30pm in the Physics Research Building’s Smith Seminar Room, with an informal reception preceding the event. In addition to the talk itself, we also welcome students to sign up for a 30-minute on-on-one meeting with Ms. DiBerardino or to participate in the student luncheon, which takes place right after the talk (approx.. 12:45-1:45). There is still plenty of availability in her schedule, so any student interested in arranging a meeting or reserving their spot in the student lunch should contact Alison Scott.
