Homework 5

Sue Coe

Alice Neel

Mary Cassatt

Louis Wain

Mark Bradford

Elizabeth Peyton

Van Gough

I found Sue Coe to be really interesting because she created her artwork to send a message and used it for causes she believes in. One example of this was how she promoted veganism through her art, and this is something that I personally am very passionate about because I am vegan myself, so it really resonates with me for that reason.

I really enjoyed Alice Neel’s artwork because her paintings are very realistic and they are very impressive to me. Her paintings consist of portraits that look very true to life, and I am drawn to this because I would like to improve my ability with drawing realistically.

I also enjoyed Louis Wains art because he mostly created images of cats, and I enjoy the playfulness of his art. I also love animals and would be interesting in creating a piece that has an animal on it.

Homework 2

Drawing is the foundation of all art and this is something that I learned from the video “The Secret of Drawing” Episode 1: “The Line of Inquiry” 2005. It is the most basic  skill for any artists even though it may be often overlooked. A large variety of materials can be used in drawing even untraditional tools. It was very interesting that the heart surgeon Francis Wells who used a patient’s blood to draw on a paper during surgery in order to plan out part of the surgery. This is another thing that makes drawing so unique, is that it is a great way to plan out and design so many things in every day life such as clothes, buildings, ideas, and so many important things.
