My G.O.A.L.S. Statement

G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness

Moving from a private school in Cincinnati to the diverse Columbus Ohio State campus has already increased my global awareness. Even though I am in the same area, my eyes have been opened to the entirety of opportunities and situations all the different types of people can have in this world. To further my global awareness through the honors program I plan on studying abroad so I can not only learn more about the beautiful world we live in but understand it. It is easy to see all the different situations happening across the world, but it is a completely different story when you immerse yourself into these situations. Popping the bubble we live in by experiencing the world is a large part of global awareness.

Original Inquiry

As an honors students’ our minds are programed to think about what more we can do and what more can be learned. To scratch this itch that is constantly nagging at us, I can participate in research projects and various labs that will allow me to further my individual learning along side of the advanced workload and conversations I will be having through advanced and honors courses. I do not only plan on learning what the university has to teach me but using the resources and research to make a name for myself in the medical field.

Academic Enrichment

Challenging courses and the heavy work load I have acquired has set me on the path I have always dreamed of. I am on the pre-medicine track while majoring in molecular genetics. I have chosen this path so that I can study in the field of endocrinology in my future. Genetics are the basis of human life and understanding that can lead to understand the base of many issues in the health field. My aspirations include working in the endocrinology field with diabetics either helping to manage their diabetes as an endocrinologist, or researching the building blocks of this chronic illness to make strides in ending it. I have chosen courses that will challenge me in the classroom as well as educate to the extent of being able to attend medical school and continue learning at the next level. This vigorous pre-medicine curriculum will prepare me for future learning opportunities by allowing my studying habits to mature as well as behavior in research labs and discussions.

Leadership Development

Leadership has always been a core ideal in my life and is something I focus on in all situations. I am currently a member of the Ohio Union Activities Board as well as a member of the chapter of the College Diabetes Network at Ohio State. These activities have allowed me to graduate from leading events in high school such as student council and the national honors society, into taking my ideas and leadership skills to a larger scale. Being a leader is important in all fields of study, but in the field of medicine you must be confident in your abilities, which is a large part of being a leader. You are leading families out of hard times, leading your colleagues in projects, and leading the world to a better tomorrow with new discoveries. Being a leader has always been an important aspect in my life, so stepping up in all situations has come naturally to me, and this ability will continue to grow and strengthen in my future aspirations.

Service Engagement

Helping the community by feeding it knowledge is not the only important thing in this world. If we want to truly give the world the best treatment we can give, we must devote our hands, minds, and bodies to the people. A large part of this commitment is service engagement. In high school, there was a service hours requirement, however this requirement was always exceeded by students who wanted to give back to a community that has given them so much. I plan on doing the same for the Ohio State community and well as the Columbus community for opening so many doors for me. I will volunteer short term to provide relief, hope, and dedication to the people, but also devote myself to the community by promising to always to my best for the people.
