Glossary

1. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
A branch of computer science focused on creating systems that can perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence. In this context, AI refers to tools like ChatGPT that process language, mimic reasoning, and engage in learning-related interactions.

2. Prompt Engineering
The practice of crafting precise input (prompts) to get the most effective or accurate responses from AI tools. Students and educators use prompt engineering to communicate with models like ChatGPT in productive ways.

3. Bias
An inclination or prejudice for or against something, often in a way considered unfair. AI models can inherit biases from their training data, which raises questions about fairness, neutrality, and trust in educational settings.

4. Digital Literacy
The ability to effectively and critically navigate, evaluate, and create information using digital technologies. This includes understanding how to responsibly use tools like ChatGPT in academic environments.

5. Algorithm
A step-by-step set of rules a computer follows to solve a problem or perform a task. ChatGPT relies on complex algorithms to generate coherent and contextually appropriate responses based on input it receives.

6. Plagiarism
The act of using another person’s language, ideas, or original work without proper attribution, presenting it as one’s own. In academic contexts, plagiarism undermines intellectual honesty and can involve copying text, paraphrasing without credit, or submitting work generated by tools like AI without acknowledgment. It is considered a serious ethical violation in educational institutions and may result in disciplinary action, including academic penalties or loss of credibility.
