About Me

Hi there! I am an aspiring glaciologist at the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center and the the School of Earth Sciences at The Ohio State University. I invite you to take a look at my CV, but here’s a bit about me that you won’t find there.

I grew up in a small, rural town near Syracuse, NY, where I was a free-range child. I grew up loving the outdoors, and I am particularly fond of water sports, both on/in solid and liquid water. I began playing piano by age 5 and the Horn by age 10, and was voted Most Musical in my high school senior yearbook. I also played soccer through my junior year of high school, and in my senior year focused instead on preparing for auditions for music school!

I attended the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music, where I studied Horn with the great Gail Williams and Jon Boen. I added a second major in Environmental Science by the end of my freshman year, and by the end of my senior year, I knew I wanted a career in science. I also got into running in college, and ran my first 5k races and 10k distance. After college, I took some time off from school to explore my interests and career options before deciding to pursue a PhD in Earth Sciences (glaciology, to be specific) at OSU. I still play the Horn in community ensembles, and I still run a lot – I completed my first half marathon months into my PhD and my first marathon in Oct. 2020! I also love to bake, particularly cookies, which tends to balance the running.
