Inspired works by Charles Burchfield:

Charles Burchfield was known for his use of many colors. His works were usually depicting scenes of nature. These works of watercolors and paintings were very unique and nothing like anything I have seen before. I noticed his works have a balance between colors and darkness. Some works are very dark, others are very colorful, and the rest use both bright colors with lots of darkness. When I think of watercolor work, I think of light soft colors and a peaceful essence. Burchfield did the opposite of this in most of his works. Some of his works come off as eerie with an uneasiness to them. Other works created by him give me a feeling of happiness when looking at them. I like how his works are very unique, and usually come off as sort of psychedelic. I am very surprised his works were created in the early and mid 1900s. He created most of his works in his childhood home through his young ages and into his late twenties.

I feel like I can kind of relate to this guy a lot. He was born in Ohio just like me, and his name is Charles. The name Charles means free man, which see in myself as well as his artworks. I also consider myself pretty creative, and it is very clear he is creative through looking at his work.

One thing that Charles did differently than most watercolor artists is that he stood at an easel. In his watercolor work he used a technique called dry brush. I like how he worked outside the box and was not afraid to try new things. Because of his experimental personality, his works are being shown in museums like the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
