Interview Summary and Service Reflection

I conducted my interview with Keelan Boettcher, who is an HSS Senior Finance Major. It was great me to talk to him, because we share some of the same interests. We are both involved with business and HSS, something that not many people in this scholars program are pursuing. We discussed a number of topics, including the benefits of HSS, how the program will impact me in the future, and opportunities where I could get more involved on campus. I enjoyed hearing about his experiences at Ohio State as an HSS student and the advice he shared with me about how to make the most of my remaining time as an undergraduate student. In regards to service, I have been an active member in the community this semester. I worked at the Garden of Hope a couple of times this semester, spent time at my church over the Easter weekend making Easter baskets for younger kids in the Greater Cleveland community, along with a number of other opportunities to get involved in the community.

Strategic Life Plan – Anthony Charles

My first of semester of college at Ohio State University has been a learning experience for me that I have come to enjoy. I entered without a clear mind of the educational path I wanted to pursue; I showed interest in business and the medical field. However, as this semester has progressed, I feel that I am not ready to commit to a single field, but I have gathered a lot of information about both career paths. Resources, such as the Thompson Library and 18th Avenue have tremendously helped to stay focused on my studies. In the beginning of the semester, I fell into a habit of doing homework in my dorm room, which was not a good. Other resources such as the Younkin Success Center and teacher office hours have led to some of my academic achievements this semester. I have been provided with several campus and internet resources that I use for many of my classes. The online library is a great tool that helps me further my knowledge of a certain subject. Moving on, while there is a greater academic, extracurricular, and social commitment demand in college, I am taking steps to maintain my health and fitness. I regularly attend one of the many accessible gyms on campus. I feel I can stick to this plan next semester as long as I stay on track with my academics. Finally, with hard work and perseverance, I hope to have a successful career and live in a big city such as New York someday. Hopefully, I will be working in the financial or medical field!
