Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: I plan on traveling abroad sometime during my 4 years of undergrad at Ohio State.  I would like to experience the conditions in a less developed country in the world.  Specifically, I would like to learn about the current medical conditions and practices in the country and perhaps gain some insight on why it is so.
  • Original Inquiry: I plan on participating in research, and if possible I would like to join a research lab dedicated to stem cell research, a topic that I find fascinating. I learned the basics of stem cell biology during the first semester of my current biology course, and the possible applications and intricacies of the field intrigued me to no end.
  • Academic Enrichment: I plan to apply to medical school after undergrad, and carefully choosing a curriculum that supports this goal is very important to me. However, rather than just taking the easiest courses possible, I would like an education that delves deeper into subjects that interest me, particularly in the field of biology. Biology offers immense flexibility in the courses I can take and allows me to delve deeper into many advanced topics pertaining to the human body while still gaining a more wholesome knowledge of the processes essential to life.
  • Leadership Development: Leaders are pro-active and take responsibility for their actions, traits that are extremely important when working in group situations.  Good leaders have the ability to communicate with others and contribute something of value to their surroundings. To further my leadership development, I plan to take part in an internship over the summer to gain valuable first-hand experience, increasing my ability to contribute both in the classroom and to the community. Further, I plan to become more involved in my co-curricular activities and become a part of their decision-making processes. Both will allow me to foster a sense of initiative and responsibility.
  • Service Engagement: Service maintains a charitable connection between oneself and their community. I am currently teaching a weekend class to kids, which I plan to continue.  In addition, I plan to apply to volunteer at the Wexner Medical Center.
