Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: Global awareness is a very important aspect of my studies here at The Ohio State University. I plan on using my degree to travel abroad and access the global market. I would love to work as a doctor in Germany, or even China. This is one of the main reasons why I took German in high school and the reason why I am taking Chinese currently in college. For my social diversity GE, I decided to take Intro to Asian Studies for just this purpose. Engulfing myself in the culture is ideal for global awareness and I myself plan on joining many clubs to aid in this  endeavor.

Original Inquiry: Since I have a premed focus, I plan on focusing on research. Over the summer, I want to work at the Wright Patterson Air Force base, since I worked there previously. While there, I wish to focus on cardiovascular research which would hopefully aid in my understanding of the heart and its functions. This is especially important to me because heart disease is especially prevalent in my family. I also plan on shadowing various doctors over the summer to get a better grasp of what type of medical professional I would desire to be.
Academic Enrichment: While at OSU, I plan on taking rigorous coursework so that I can show medical schools that I have the ability to work hard and achieve, even when the task is very difficult. The classes I have planned for my college career include many upper level courses and I believe this suits my needs well. I also have an interest in sociology and may or may not attempt a sociology minor at my time here.
Leadership Development: Currently, I plan on joining a mentoring program for young college students so that I can help them transition from high school to college life. This program is very important to me because they helped me through my freshman year and created a sense of community that I never had before. In addition, I plan on joining a teaching program for underprivileged kids in middle school and high school. This would not only be a volunteer program, but a leadership position, as I would be teaching.

Service Engagement: As I state before, I plan on joining a mentoring and teaching program. Both of these would be optional and completely voluntary. these clubs and events meet weekly and I greatly appreciate the routine of them. I would also love to take a service trip to an impoverished area during the summer and volunteering at my nearby hospital when I have time.
