Chadwick Arboretum Hosts Events This Summer

Chadwick Arboretum is hosting its popular Plastic Pot Recycling Event, which will be held on Saturday, June 10, 7:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the turnaround drive in front of Howlett Hall, 2001 Fyffe Court, 43210. Horticultural plastics (pots, trays, and cell packs) aren’t recyclable and are typically sent to the landfill. We engage with partner Phoenix Recycling to keep these plastics out of the waste stream and landfills, and they render them into useful products. We also accept non-food grade Styrofoam at this event. We will fill a semi-trailer in 4 hours and we encourage all staff to participate and alert their neighbors and friends to this ‘green’ opportunity.

The second event is our popular Open House, which will be held on Sunday, July 23, 1 – 4 p.m. at our Arboretum North site, which is just north of the Ohio 4-H Center, 2201 Fred Taylor Drive. Chadwick Arboretum volunteers and staff will provide tours of the site, as well as tours of the enCore Solar House. We’ll have fishing experts on site, and we will distribute lead-free sinkers and talk about the species of fish that are in our catch-and-release pond; a basket weaver will demonstrate his crafts among our willow collections; pollinator and bee experts will be on site to talk about habitat and what you can do to protect desired species in your yard; and plein air artists will be sketching and painting at various locations. Franklin County Master Gardeners will answer your gardening questions, and we’ll also serve root beer floats. Canoes will be available throughout the day. This free event is a restful way to spend a summer afternoon. Free parking will be provided in lots adjacent to the site.
