Little International Invitation

Greetings!

As Co-Chairmen for the 101st Little International Contest, we extend to the faculty and staff an invitation to attend the 2015 Little I on April 11, 2015. We begin at the OSU barns at 8 a.m. with the equine and swine divisions. Then, we will begin the cattle division at 9 a.m., followed with sheep categories, and lastly the selection the winner of the Steeb honor. Students have worked hard with the animals, and your support in attendance would be appreciated!

Following the completion of the contest, at ~1 p.m., please plan to also join us for a meal and the awards presentation. There is change in the location of the Little International Awards Banquet. We will be in the banquet room at Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City, 445 S Jefferson Ave, Plain City, OH 43064, for lunch and our awards program at ~1 pm (or after we finish the contests at the barns, should that be earlier). We had an issue arise of being double-booked in the Agriculture Administration Auditorium, and securing a new place carried some challenges. The restaurant is not far from the barns, and we are excited to use these facilities! Thank you to everyone for staying with us while we worked through this set-back.

We ask that you PLEASE follow the link below to the Google Doc to document that you/family members are attending. (Be sure to count yourself in that number!) The meal at Der Dutchman is covered by Saddle and Sirloin, and we want to be certain we have enough food for everyone, so please take the minute to fill that out. The deadline for that is Monday, April 6, 2015 11:59 p.m.  Help us, help you!

Kind regards,

Kaitlyn Hinds and Karli Lane

ACEL Leadership Change

From Bruce A. McPheron, Vice President & Dean

Earlier this week, Gary Straquadine shared with me that, effective June 30, 2015, he will return to Utah State to serve as Vice Provost and Associate Director, School of Applied Technology (ASTE). While I’m disappointed to see Gary leave, I know this is an outstanding opportunity for him to return to an institution and state that he knows so well.

Since July 1, 2012, Gary has served as Chair of the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education and Leadership where he successfully led or collaborated with faculty and staff on a number of successful efforts. The department completed an excellent external review, finished a new strategic plan, and updated their patterns of administration during Gary’s tenure. Those efforts set the stage for the department to continue developing their online masters degree program and to attract two outstanding new faculty members, one each in Agricultural Communication and Community Leadership. Gary was also instrumental in facilitating the transfer of the OSU Leadership Center into the academic department.

Please join me in wishing Gary well as he takes the next step in his professional career. Following conversations with department faculty and staff in the coming weeks, I’ll share information about interim and transitional leadership for the department.
