My name is Mark Celestina, and I am a current design foundations student at the Ohio State University. I am originally from Euclid, Ohio, which is slightly east of Cleveland. My goal, in attending the design foundations program, is to major in industrial design, and, someday, have a job in the user experience field.
As a previous Computer Science and Engineering major, I have experience with coding languages, specifically Java, HTML, JavaScript, and Python. This background has given me the tools to understand web design and development from a technical standpoint, which will help me down my road to becoming a user experience designer.
Why Design?
My interest in the design process was sparked by my older sister, who completed her undergraduate degree studying industrial design. When I was younger and she had breaks from school, she would visit Cleveland, show me her sketches and projects that she was working on, and we would discuss them. My sister demonstrating the techniques and skills she was taught in school inspired me to want to become a designer. My hopes are that I learn about each step in the design thinking process, and refine my skills to become the best designer I can be.
I look forward to using the design process to conduct user research and interviews that will directly impact the project at hand, and how to use the information gathered to make the best end result. Good design, to me, is functional, intuitive, and user oriented, simplifying the everyday life and needs of people. Through the design program, I hope that I learn more about myself and find my niche.
