PWC Elevate Conference

During my sophomore school year, I connected with Adam Van Treese. Adam is one of the PWC Campus recruiters for OSU. After getting to know Adam, I applied and interviewed for PWC’s Elevate conference in Chicago, IL. I attended the conference from June 2nd -3rd 2015. During the conference, we learned about PWC’s Performance Review Matrix. It provided explicit advice for how to improve throughout your career. Developing as a professional is no longer limited to Business Acumen and Technical Abilities. Professional growth now needs Relationship, Global Acumen, and Whole Leadership development. It was exciting to see a firm so invested in developing it’s talent from within.

One of my favorite activities at the conference was a competition involving PlayDoh. The activity assigned various duties to teams. The team was composed of:

  1. A planner outside of the room with the building plans, with associated points for various structures, for the PlayDoh,
  2. A messaged who goes in and out of the room to convey a message,
  3. Builders who use their hands to try to craft what the messenger instructs.

It was fun and challenging. I was a builder. I am a big picture person. As such, I struggled with not knowing what point values were behind which structure or why we were choosing to build certain things. The activity resembled the structure between Partners, Managers, and Associates. It was beneficial to understand that the planner or partner knows things that the builders or associates don’t. It is important to be patient and to listen to instructions carefully.

After I graduate from college I have aspirations to move to Chicago to work. This conference gave me a peek at the city and I definitely see myself there in the future!
