The Women’s Brunch is an event that showcases a women in the Ohio community. This year we choose to commemorate Brenda Drake. Brenda Drake shared about her journey through her career. The brunch featured many prominent esteemed guests from the Ohio area. As a member of the Women’s Month Planning Committee, I was in charge of escorting two esteemed guests. First, I escorted Congress Woman Joyce Beatty. Secondly, I escorted Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston (Dr. J). This is the first time I personally met Dr. J, the Vice President of Student Life. This marked the beginning of an empowering relationship.

At the event, Brenda Drake shared experiences of disrespect associated with being a woman of color in the law industry. It was stirring to listen to Brenda Drake’s advice on how to manage yourself in similar situations. Being able to listen to a women like Brenda Drake who delights in success after being faced with obstacles and adversity time and time again, inspires me to embark on my own journey for similar success regardless what dares to stand in my way.
