McGill Cancer Institute Graduate Recruitment

McGill’s Goodman Cancer Institute Virtual Recruitment Event

McGill University will be hosting its Annual Graduate Recruitment Event virtually on February 17 and 18, 2022. Top applicants will be picked to join the recruitment event, where they will be able to meet trainees and faculty members, such as cancer scientists, associated with the McGill Goodman Cancer Institute. Selected invitees will then be offered a scholarship for Fall 2022 or Winter 2023 admission.

This event is for students in Bachelor of Science or Master of Science programs with interest in biomedical research.

The application and registration process can be found on the event webpage. The process includes a CV, letter of intent, and recent transcripts. The deadline for registration and applications will be Sunday, January 9, 2022. Invitations will be sent on Monday, January 31, 2022.

ORISE Undergraduate Scholarship Competition

The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) is hosting a research-based challenge for undergraduate students! The challenge is for students to develop a website on plastic recycling. Students will research their schools’ current process for recycling plastic and then design/create a strategy to make the process more efficient. Thorough submissions will include further research on the plastic recycling process, benefits of current recycling methods, and process improvement ideas. Your website could win you a $5,000 scholarship!

The deadline for this competition is Tuesday, November 30, 2021, and winners will be announced in late December.

Prizes:

  • 1st place: $5,000 scholarship
  • 2nd place: $3,000 scholarship
  • 3rd place: $1,000 scholarship

Cunningham Appalachian Student Scholarship

The Community of Appalachian Student Leaders (CASL) is a student organization that aims to connect and engage students from the Appalachian region with fellow Appalachian students at The Ohio State University, while working towards developing academic, professional, and leadership skills. Learn more about the group here.

CASL will once again be helping award the Patricia Cunningham Scholarship. This fund is designated to provide scholarship opportunities to undergraduate students from Appalachian counties in honor of Dr. Patricia Cunningham, WGSS alumna, to further her pledge of increasing access to higher education for underrepresented students. Dr. Cunningham was a three-time graduate of Ohio State University and received her Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies in 2002 going on to receive her doctorate in Education Policy and Leadership in 2011. She was the founder of the Appalachian Project Ohio which focused on pathways to education for Ohio State’s Appalachian students. Dr. Patty dedicated her time, resources, and soul to serving underrepresented students both on and off-campus. She tirelessly worked to break down barriers for students to obtain a college education and pursue their endeavors beyond.

A scholarship of up to $1,500 will be awarded for the 2020-2021 academic year. Applications will be reviewed based on academic merit and commitment to student leadership.

Undergraduate students from the Appalachian region in any Arts and Sciences major are encouraged to apply by March 31, 2021. Students must be enrolled full-time during the 2021-2022 academic year to be eligible. Apply here.

KXPRESS Scholarship Opportunity

The CFAES Knowledge Exchange is currently offering a science communication scholarship opportunity. They are seeking students who are interested in developing creative science communication projects that solve one of a few Grand Challenges: water quality, rural-urban interface, farm and community stress, food security, and food waste. Finalists will receive up to $500 in scholarships. More information can be found here.

ACS Scholars Program

The ACS Scholars Program is more than just a scholarship, it’s a network of passionate chemical professionals who want to help and support future chemists during a crucial time in their lives.

The program is a community that dedicates itself to representing minority students from high school seniors to undergraduate students who want to study chemical sciences. Scholars are chosen based on career objective, academic standing, leadership skills, financial need and involvement in school or community activities.

Of the previous scholars in the ACS Scholars Program:

  • Over 300 have completed a Ph.D. program
  • More than 50% of alumni chose to purse higher degrees
  • 90% earned baccalaureate degrees with 80% in the chemical sciences

Undergraduate Research Scholarship and International Research Grant

Applications are now open for the Undergraduate Research Scholarship and the International Research Grant. These scholarships will award funds of 500-6,000 dollars. The awards are to be used to meet tuition costs, but remaining balances will be issued to the recipients. You do not need to be a member of the Arts and Sciences Honors Program to apply for these scholarships. However, special consideration will be given to applicants who have research distinction or honors research distinction.

Rodriguez Selected as ACS Scholar

Congratulations to undergraduate Emily Rodriguez on receiving the American Chemical Society Scholar Award! The ACS Scholars Program awards renewable scholarships to underrepresented minority students majoring in undergraduate chemistry-related disciplines, and who are also intending to pursue careers in the field of Chemistry. Recipients can receive up to $5,000 per academic year.

“Chemistry has always been a door for me; it has opened the way to many opportunities and adventures. Being selected as an ACS Scholar has not only validated all of the hours put into my study of chemistry, but it will also allow me to pursue endeavors in which I can not only enrich my knowledge of chemistry, but also spread my love of chemistry to others. Civil Rights Transportation Scholarships Application Deadline Approaching!

In celebration of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s 2nd Annual Civil Rights Transportation Symposium,  three (3) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to (3) individual students currently enrolled in a post high school education focusing in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) related fields. The Civil Rights Transportation Symposium Scholarship focuses on broadening the number of individuals in the management and operation ranks of the engineering and transportation industry. Students will be selected by submitting an essay describing how the Civil Rights Act has impacted the transportation industry and the role it will play in the future along with application and supplemental documentation.

Students must meet Scholarship eligibility requirements to be considered. Employees and their immediate family members of the Ohio Dept. of Transportation are not eligible for participation. CBC Undergraduate Scholarships – Apply Now!

The online application form for Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry undergraduate scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year is now open! The application, along with eligibility information and a list of requirements can be found on the Application webpage.

A list of the available scholarships can be found on the CBC Scholarship webpage. The CBC Scholarships support students with a variety of goals, interests, and backgrounds.

All applicants must include the information of a faculty member who has agreed to provide a recommendation; please be sure to get permission and agreement from the faculty member before listing them as your recommender.

Applications are due Monday, February 5th, 2018, by 5:00pm.
